Burgundy Velvet & Black Leather

image

I can’t believe that September is almost over—which means that shorts and skirts are going to have to be worn with tights and knee high socks very soon. But until then, I’ve decided to take advantage of September weather by pairing a burgundy velvet skirt with a cropped leather jacket, striped shirt, and black leather booties

I absolutely love mixing different textures, such as velvet and leather. The mix of textures give an outfit an air of sophistication and complexity

What I love about this cropped jacket is the subtle hints of leather. The jacket itself is a cotton blend. However, the trim is a nice leather texture

I carry the leather texture down into the black booties to pull the look together and make sure the velvet is not overwhelming. The

To finish the look, I grabbed my go-to tote: the Neverfull.

Special Occasion Charm

image

So, when you’re going out for an evening, there are a few things to consider: where the venue is, if you’re going to be walking or standing a lot, if the weather is cold, etc…

image

To celebrate my 6 months with my boyfriend, I decided to go with the classic, little black dress and pair it with champagne, cap-toe ballet flats. Since it’s getting chillier during the evening, I added a silk amethyst trench coat

What I love about champagne flats is how versatile they are. You can style them up with a little black dress, or dress them down with a pair of dark wash jeans and white button up shirt.  I went with heel that particular night because I knew that we would be walking to and from the metro from the restaurant. You always want make sure to be comfortable, no matter what occasion it is!

image

Special occasion outfits should be simple and refined. So for accessories, I chose to style the black dress with a simple black tassel clutch and my go-to white ceramic watch and gold link bracelet.

Once you’re all dressed and ready, dazzle your friends (or maybe even that special someone) on that evening out! Enjoy and have fun!

Teal Accents

image

What I’ve always kept as a rule of thumb in all of my outfits is to choose one colour and focus the look on it. Here, I decided to put an emphasis on teal, especially because it is, once again, a jewel tone, and I am drawn to deep, rich colours—especially for autumn.

image

I selected a cream tuxedo blazer to make sure that I did not lose my figure in the looseness of the teal tank. Also, the black lining of the tuxedo blazer compliments the structured black shorts, pulling the outfit into one seamless and coherent look.

image

Thankfully, the weather has gotten slightly warmer so I was able to wear my black structured shorts (perhaps for the last time until spring). To make sure that the teal colour stood out in the look, I made sure that the other pieces that I styled with the top were neutral colors with simple and classic cuts.

image

My finishing touches are a simple black bucket bag and must-have gold buckle booties. I made sure that I accessorized with pieces that would give a little more emphasis on the black tuxedo detailing of the blazer. This way, there is a relative theme that continues throughout the outfit.

But, all of you New Yorkers out there…be sure to enjoy the nice weather, cause I know for sure it’s not here to stay.

So stay warm my fashionistas,
